EXperimentation In Sound art Tradition (E.X.I.S.T.) is proud to present Active | De-Active: An Inventive Music Festival. It is the first international festival to be held in the Philippines that focuses on two exciting frontiers of music — experimental and improvised music. The event is scheduled to take place this coming October at various selected venues in Manila, Cavite and Davao (details soon).
It will consist of a series of live performances, workshops, presentation of methods and practices, creative collaborations and artist-talks by international and local participating artists, in an effort to present and exchange artistic ideas and musical experiences that will contribute to the appreciation and understanding of these developments in new music.
Active | De-Active will provide a platform for informed discussions of the cultural, developmental and educational aspects of improvisation and experimentation in music, and at the same time to present the artistic or technical practices embodied in it. The festival is also an attempt to gather a community of experimental musicians, improvisers, new media art practitioners, musicologists, and teachers who can share and exchange knowledge that would benefit the understanding of improvised and experimental music.
