The quest for achieving a sense of balance is one of the main challenges for the project ZENSORS. Balance emanating from multiple sources, different individuals, holding varied expectations, perspectives and approaches geared towards a parallel direction. Launched in Berlin, Germany, ZENSORS will gather esteemed Filipino, Japanese and French artists specialising in collaborative work in the field of contemporary performing arts, visual arts, media performance and technology. Scheduled on 12-25 August 2009, ZENSORS aspires to challenge professional artists by engaging them in innovative creative processes while introducing a fresh way of thinking and working together amongst artists of diverse cultural backgrounds and practices.
ZENSORS, supported by the Asian Cultural Council, will invite installation and visual artists like Shunsuke Francois Nanjo (Japan/France) and Mayumi Okabayashi (Japan/Germany); choreographer and dancer, Chiyo Ogino (Japan) and filmmaker, Nine Yamamoto-Masson (Japan/France). The invited foreign artists will be working and undertaking a process of exchange with the likes of Philippine National Artist, Benedicto “Bencab” Cabrera; vocal singer, Grace Nono; multi-awarded Filmmaker/Director, Aureus Solito, composer/musician, Diwa De Leon and sound/installation artist, Lirio Salvador. During this period, a programme designed to lead towards the development of a collaborative work will be presented at the newly set-up Bencab Museum on 21 August, 5:00 p.m.
ZENSORS will put not only the Filipino and foreign artists in close contact with one another but will also engage both the Baguio and Manila audiences who are deemed to act as active participants for this creative exchange.
Vanini Belarmino is producer and curator for ZENSORS. This project is presented in cooperation with the Bencab Museum, Cultural Center of the Philippines and Japan Foundation Manila.
ZENSORS Performance Jam is scheduled at the Bencab Museum, Asin Road, KM 6, Benguet, 21 August 2009, 5:00 p.m.
