On August 06 2008 (also her birthday) while riding home a jeepney along Cainta, Rizal, Tara was shot in the head during a hold-up. Her very close friend Joyce "Joee" Mejias, who was with her at that time rushed her to the nearest hospital.

Tara has been in the ICU fighting for her dear life. Although it seems that there is nothing else we can do but wait for a miracle to happen. We, friends of Tara, E.X.I.S.T. members, have decided to organize a benefit gigs to raise funds for Tara's hospital/medical bills.

For those who wants to donate, the temporary bank account is under Anne Marie F. Santelices, Banco de Oro, SA 2140-062201. Any amount will much be appreciated. You can also give your donations during the event.

We request everyone to please please please pray for Tara, a very young lady who was shot in the head this early morning during a robbery. She is a musician (Saffron Speedway/Stormy/Scarlet Tears) and artist with a ready smile for everyone and warmth about her that is rare.

Today is also her birthday (Aug. 6).
She is spending it at the hospital in highly critical condition. Please make your birthday wish for her right now and pray that she not only survive this ordeal but also come out as good as she was before this nightmare happened.

MANILA, Philippines - A 23-year-old woman is now in critical condition after being shot in the head early Wednesday morning after she attempted to wrestle her laptop away from a thief in Cainta, Rizal.

A report by radio dzBB’s Sam Nielsen said the unidentified thief used a .38 caliber pistol to shoot the victim identified by the Cainta police as Dara Santeneces of Brookside Subdivision in Cainta town.

Santences’ companion Joyce Mejias, who was riding the Marikina-bound jeepney with the victim at the time of the incident, said the suspect declared a holdup while the jeepney was moving along Felix Ave. in Cainta.

But when the victim tried to wrestle back her bag containing a laptop, the assailant immediately shot her, took some of the passengers' bags and immediately fled the scene.

PlasTechnology (a sound art exhibition)

PlasTechnology is a Sound Art and multi-media exhibition spearheaded by E.X.I.S.T. (EXperimentation In Sound art Tradition) and made possible through the initiative of Erick Calilan. Headed by the CEAT Student Council, this project was commissioned by the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) of De La Salle University - Dasmariñas. This exhibition is but one of the activities lined-up for the Science and Technology Month scheduled to run through the 21st of July to the 1st of August, 2008.

PlasTechnology is a combination of two concepts/terms. The former (Plas) is derived from the Plastic Arts which refers to any three-dimensional visual arts such as Sculpture or Architecture. The latter, the word Technology, refers to the use of technological innovation, concepts, and resources. Basically, it is an integration of two disciplines for the purpose of capturing a single idea – to transcend art by using technological advancement as a medium for creative production and presentation. The exhibition is also a platform for exploration and experimentation, since PlasTechnology could be understood as a 'Synthetic Technology'; a technology far beyond the academic teaching and standards or 'pseudo-technology'. This is evident via experimentation and alteration of any available technology such as computers, televisions, or radios. Moreover, the illogical use of electronic procedures, process, standard or system is another factor.

The exhibition will be officially open for viewing on July 21 (Monday) and runs until August 1, 2008 at the Exhibit Hall of the CEAT Bldg. Also, there will be an artist's talk and massive sound art and multi-media art performance on July 23 (Wednesday) at U-Break, 12 nn to 2:30 pm, venue is also at the Exhibit Hall. This is a damage-free event and this is open to all students and faculties.

E.X.I.S.T. is a not-for-profit sound art collective and movement. It is a loose organization among sound-artists, musicians, and multi-media practitioners. Its main objective is to introduce Experimental Music and Sound Art as an interdisciplinary art form, especially in its relation to technological advancement/development through mediums, methodologies and concepts. E.X.I.S.T. continues the tradition of Experimental Music and Sound Art by organizing sound art performance/concerts, workshops, exhibition and even a sound art CD compilation.

The Participants:

Mannet Villariba is a performance artist, painter, sound artist, visual programmer and designer. He has been active in diverse fields, such as art, design, and even research and development. Yielding output of sounds, images, and light through analyzing and transforming the numerical values gained from a various sensors and input devices. A Visual Artist pursuing sensual peculiarity, and interaction. He is a graduate of Bachelor of Fine Arts, Major in Painting in University of Santo Tomas.

Jeck Cogama is an independent film maker and works freelance as production designer and stylist for films, televisions, music videos, prints and events. He won Best Director in Cinemalaya in 2006 for his short film 'Putot' and eventually won the Best Short Film for Gawad Urian Awards. Currently, he is working on his new short film entitled 'Amanos'. He is an alumnus of De La Salle University - Dasmariñas.

Lirio Salvador is a sculptor, inventor, instrument builder and the prime mover of E.X.I.S.T. He is probably the Father of Experimental Music in the Philippines. He is been doing Sound Art and Experimental Music since the late 80's and early 90's with his punk band Publiko, then the interdisciplinary art group Intermidya. Eventually, he formed Elemento; a multi-disciplinary experimental and sound art collective, where he creates his music using his assemblage of musical instruments made out of bicycle parts, stainless steel tubes and other industrialized materials which he commonly called 'Sandata'. This coming September he will be participating in the Singapore Biennale; an international art exhibition.

Erick Calilan is a musician, sound artist, circuit bender and a philosophy student in De La Salle University - Dasmariñas. He often performs under the name Ugong; a conceptual sound art outfit utilizing circuit-bent sound devices and do-it-yourself gadgets.

Etniktronika is a sound art group and also the brainchild of Mel Araneta, an Ilonggo painter and performance artist. The group combines ethnic music with electronic music through their performances and works. The group is composed of Mai Pavillar, Uway Sarona, Tambu Pendiodai and Mel Araneta.
